Stance width
Basically, how wide apart you have your feet when you address a golf ball is totally about balance. This is something that most golfers believe changes with each club. Although there is a bit of truth in that, this is something that often gets exaggerated and then becomes a problem.
With the driver off the tee, you will have the maximum swing speed and thus centrifugal forces acting on you. This compromises your balance if your feet are too close together.
Don’t overdo the narrow stance
I and many others recommend that with this club you have your feet shoulder width apart. As the club gets shorter, the forces reduce on your balance. Therefore, when golfers hit a chip, pitch or short iron shot, they are inclined to have their feet closer together. But be careful, you can take this too far.
One of the most important features of the short game technique is to lean your body weight onto your front foot If you do that with too narrow a stance you will fall over. The answer is, yes, have the feet closer together, but never less than 6 inches apart from heel to heel.
