Seniors Championship at Coulsdon Court

The latest playing of the World of Golf New Malden Seniors Championship was at Coulsdon Court Golf Club in Surrey. This was a course that very few of the guys had played before but I think they will be playing again as it met with universal appreciation. It was in super condition for a basic public course and the generous fairways and lack of punishing rough allowed for the odd wayward tee shot that the guys were prone to.

The weather was again lovely, shorts weather, just. The scores were by far the best there have ever been, the winner was a new player, Alan Murray and the slightly generous handicap he was given allowed him to complile 39 points, but he was only just in front of the consistent Martin McDonnell who amassed 38 points without taking his driver out of the bag. Third prize went to Francis Rowland on 37 points which would normally win by a street.

Although there were a few mis hits and lost balls, by and large the seniors excelled and Alan continues the tradition of there being a new winner of the trophy every single time, and with the savage revision of his handicap that will take place before the next running of the championship, he is unlikely to be the first to retain it.

Details of the date and venue of the next seniors championship will be available soon by contacting Jon Woodroffe on woodroffe17@btinternet.com
